today. i'm talking about apple. down about $12.53 or more than 3%. we did put it in our feature but on the lower part of the screen because it is widely held, and a lot of you watch it closely. it is down. why the drop? will, news that there is less than stellar demand. plus, reported production issues delayed shipment of the iphone five. so, just how big a deal is apple soup? well, it's down about 44%, of of its record close from november november 2012. today is almost half that. look at this. what a change we have seen there. the nasdaq, just 8 percent of the nasdaq. another closely watched name. j.c. penney, the total opposite situation. they may have reason to smile. a desperate need of cash. not a breaking story, but it

could get the $500 million infusion in the form of a loan from wells fargo. that would apparently be back by the retailers' inventory and accounts receivable. let's focus on the markets as you mentioned, don't count down earnings. we have ibm on deck. right now the markets are reflecting the nonbelievers out there. doreen, what you believe that is? >> clearly we have a change in sentiment from the traders. plenty of people that are welcoming these downdrafts money back into the market. still pretty well liked. we still have a lot of corporate earnings taking place, so there is good news in months all of

these. liz: i guess you can say that is true, right now we are just awful close of the session, down about 117. there is clear negativity. i am less worried about that than i am in something that the traders may seek. he tommy. >> we have been watching the copper market. i mean, copper is the gauge of the global economy. we saw russia come out last night. they warn that if the physical commodities continued a sell-off they may fall and slick themselves into a recession. if we start to see russia fall into recession, parts of europe also may fall. the u.s. to be right behind it, and this could be as serious meltdown that could occur. liz: well, a meltdown in gold. right now we're up about $4. it is not a big deal. still, well off of the eyes of the past year or so. let me just get to crude oil right now. it is rebounding a bit by about a dollar and 54. overall, the entire energy complex looks stronger. what is that duty today?

>> i think we have overdone it. we oversold the market. we got into a level where commercial buyers came into start hedging positions. i'm with that. to me right now eyeleted 84 and a half to 85. from here you buy this. and we head back up higher. liz: what would drive the move fire? >> well, a couple of things. coming up with a lot of bad news right now. and there was a huge sell-off in commodities. it's it's a sex sweating over. bad economic news, the world economies. but icn next week to four weeks, we have seen the worst. the next week to four weeks we're going to start to see equal or better news. but that the commodities rise up. we only saw how far it can go down with bad news. liz: doreen and phil, i guess this question is a random one. cell in may and 08. getting very close. can anyone afford to do that?

this market is so fluid. >> well, you know, we really have not had retail investors involved. everyone makes the assumption that everyone got in the top and now they're losing. not necessarily a bad market. it's an opportunity for many people that have a lot of cash on the sidelines and are waiting to get in. >> earnings are mixed. not have a lot of good news. in the economic data front in the united states and certainly everybody is very, the bombings. liz: hold on. we will fix your microphone. let me throw it to you, phil. that same question. cell in may and go away at your own peril if. >> i think so. it is definitely in the cards. think we ran up too far in the s&p, on the verge of a breakdown. earnings are going to confirm that. the jobs market will start sliding, especially of the next few months. qe is not helping, so i could definitely see that come back later in the year.

today in the market's overall, particularly in technology. ebay earnings that i know you covered. yahoo as well. we saw some weakness in both of those companies' earnings. and so now is kind of trickling over into the big names. two big firms, technology firms, fixtures in the industry down today ahead of their quarterly reports. let's tackle global. the headline numbers. $10.66. etf on revenues of 14 billion. leading the numbers will be good. here is what they said. however, they are cutting revenue estimates. lowering the estimates on the stock as well saying that such checks indicating some deceleration from the fourth quarter, last quarter to this court, an agency checks indicating greater than expected macro pressure on ad spending in western europe, and that don't have to tell you, west and europe was the culprit in the weakness of the ebay reports, so we will be listing very intensely to what they say above overall global spending. finally, we move on to

phones, but shares of one mobile phone maker selling off. nicole as a story. >> reporter: that's right. all right. well, we wanted to talk about the fact we are seeing a while the montell market. some names are hitting new lows like apple. some are hitting new highs. one to bring your reverie its nokia. take a look at what is going on. down almost 14%. cost that's good news. performance. fed -- the mobile phone, or they get a lot of revenue. that is actually down about 20%. so now that executives are rushing to say, hey, but we have lou mia. the new sales. that is really what they're pointing out. so there down. 14%. liz: i know, not marveling.

is that a good thing. just $3 stock. let me get to sandra at the cme looking at the movers today. >> reporter: and, most commodities were higher today. the weakness. most commodities, particularly energy complex up in today's session. the biggest gainers, natural gas , a huge winner across the board. trading session sitting at 21-month high. an inventory report that showed supply. inventories growing less than forecast. we saw buyers step in. * the meeting well, gasoline demand energies up across the board. your biggest losers in today's session came from the ag room. corn prices falling a couple of percent. your first drop in three trading days. forecasts are out there for more rain during the growing season, but less rain during the

planting season. of that came together for quite a sell-off. back to you. liz: sent you very much. a major battle has erupted between charlie and i. which is like watching that graphic. two major law enforcement agencies involved in the insider-trading crackdown. i don't know. i mean what is this about? >> reporter: these people are just marginally more important than you and i. what we're talking about here is the u.s. attorney's office for the southern district. the most powerful prosecution office in the country known for taking cases about terrorism. and the fbi, the most powerful, i guess, in many ways police force that we have to read what other fighting over? should they be arresting in these pre-dawn raids, insider trading suspects. why is that a big deal? the u.s. attorney's office

believes that some of the arrests, including the one that flared up, the recent arrest of michael stamberg. liz: this was get friday -- good friday right outside his park avenue apartment and there was video. >> reporter: and some journalists pops in, and they did a pre-dawn raid. we should point out, through his lawyer, very good lawyer, i've known him for a while. while the best firms around. he basically offered to turn himself in. i mean, this was still aground. we now you want me. he pled not guilty. there is the video. tear myself and. the u.s. attorney's office said the estimate but the fbi said no way, jose. you are not cooperating, we are going to do it as we do everyone else. we will bring you went. why did this agreement first off, the u.s. attorney's office would say, we want this guy to cooperate.

maybe doing this to him is probably not the best thing to do. the fbi is taking a little different tack. this makes him up. cold water in the face. you're under arrest. one to cooperate you will go to jail. they also say, this is not a violent criminal. i mean, just a you know, i stepped back and looked at the case. this is my opinion. you not think this is a particularly strong case. the intermission he was trading and was washed through several levers. very good braincases. when most of them. a little different, but not only that, i mean, i think citizens and say, you know, these guys are not rapists and murderers. liz: you're richer, but perhaps others might say, are you letting these guys turn themselves in without the cameras and the faces because their wealth the? and the south bronx, the dew has -- >> reporter: but what did he do? liz: violent crime. obviously, and this is not that. >> reporter: dealing drugs.

right. and that is not -- neither of them are, you know, out of the range of possibilities. guestimate you deserve it. drunken-driving, i can see it. driving a vehicle under the influence. that's like a loaded weapon. liz: interesting that the fbi trump that u.s. attorney's office. >> reporter: they can. that's interesting. the fbi is in many ways an independent agency that operates in the arrests and listen to the wire taps. u.s. attorneys bring the cases. we should point out that there is a bigger story here. i get into a lot of this in my book. liz: am i invited to the party? >> reporter: if i have one, please. do that thing. and, you know, there is a bigger set of, i guess, battles over publicity, over who is most responsible for a crackdown on insider trading between the fbi. they made the cases. they did most of the work.

the u.s. attorney's office. a lot going back and forth. i would say this about him. in some ways he has to publicize it. he is the u.s. attorney. if you don't tell the public that you're cracking down. obviously, these are cases that were created before an. he does have to, like to say, you know, we are doing our jobs here. but because of that there is a lot of lanes between those two sides. boiled over a little bit. i can tell you, the u.s. attorney's office wanted him purely to turn himself in. but there would gain nothing of this arrest. i don't know. it's kind of stormy. of one reporter shows up. liz: they get the call. this is our works. you work in local news and get the call from a friend. >> reporter: we should point out, people at the fbi you plan that the general -- liz: well, more power. >> reporter: well -- liz: you don't believe that? >> we would stakeout.
